And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
God brought about Ahaziah's downfall when he went to visit Joram. While he was there, Ahaziah went out with Jehoram to fight against Jehu, the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had chosen and anointed to destroy Ahab's entire family line.
God orchestrated Ahaziah's destruction by having him be in the wrong place at the wrong time when divine judgment fell on the wicked house of Ahab.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of the divided kingdom, Ahaziah was a king of Judah who allied himself with the northern kingdom's King Jehoram, influenced by his mother Athaliah's ties to the wicked house of Ahab. God had previously anointed Jehu through the prophet Elisha to execute judgment on Ahab's family for their idolatry and rebellion against Him. This verse shows how Ahaziah's poor choices led to his downfall as part of God's sovereign plan to eliminate evil leadership.
